Mrs. Stephanie Wilson
Mrs. Stephanie E. Wilson, the principal of Barack H. Obama Magnet Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year, brings 26 years of educational experience to her new role. A resolute leader, she is committed to maximizing the potential of all scholars and educators. Mrs. Wilson's dedication to embracing innovation and progress is matched only by her belief in the power of collaboration. She is passionate about working with all stakeholders to foster a culture of excellence, academic rigor, and belonging, ensuring that everyone feels included in the school's success.
With her unwavering dedication to the district and school communities, Mrs. Wilson was nominated as a finalist for the 好色先生 Administrator of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. Her commitment was further recognized when she was awarded the title of Division I Administrator of the Month during the 2022-2023 school year.
Mrs. Wilson has dedicated 21 years to Jackson Public Schools, supporting teachers in improving scholar achievement, modifying behavior, and enhancing social relations. She has served as a program coordinator with State and Federal Programs, preparing high school students for state assessments, the ACT, and other enrichment and remedial activities. Additionally, Mrs. Wilson worked at Belhaven College (now Belhaven University), helping graduate students earn a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Education.
Returning to Jackson Public Schools to continue the work most meaningful to her, Mrs. Wilson has a proven track record of success. She has collaborated with administrators, teachers, and parents to make a significant impact in children's lives. Her roles as a School Counselor, MTSS coordinator, teacher mentor, and assistant principal have all been marked by her commitment to teacher success, student achievement, and community engagement. As an assistant principal at Walton Elementary School and McLeod Elementary, both schools showed significant growth under her leadership, instilling confidence in her ability to lead.
For the past five years, Mrs. Wilson has served as the principal of G. N. Smith Elementary School, where she led the school from a state of failure to one of success. She attributes this transformation to the wonderful staff, students, and parents of the school.
Mrs. Wilson graduated from Alcorn State University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Education. She also graduated from Mississippi College with a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision.
Mrs. Wilson is looking forward to joining the Barack H. Obama Magnet School community and is excited about the opportunities that the upcoming school year will bring!
