International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program
-
In March of 2005, Obama Magnet became an IB World School, the first in Mississippi authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The IB PYP provides an engaging, challenging educational framework that focuses on the total growth of the developing child; touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional, and cultural needs in addition to advanced academic development.
Visual arts such as painting, photography, and pottery are integrated across the curriculum. Additionally, students participate in music classes and have the opportunity to learn to play violin, viola, or cello with a musician from the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.
We have one-to-one technology which provides access to quality learning tools and technologies, allowing students to research, organize, evaluate, and communicate information.
Because fluency in a second language is an essential characteristic of a global citizen, all students at Obama receive instruction in Spanish.
The philosophy of the IB PYP guides all teaching, learning, and assessment at Obama Magnet. The following policies describe the role of assessment and language in our classrooms.
