Ms. Guyniesha Johnson, Principal
Biography
Ms. Johnson previously served as an assistant principal at Quitman County Elementary in the Quitman County School District. She began her career in 2008 as a 3rd-grade teacher at James C. Rosser Elementary School in Moorehead, Mississippi. She helped students improve two grade levels in reading and math in eight months of instruction. She also developed and implemented a math remediation curriculum that resulted in a 70% passing rate on end-of-year assessments among the 41 students she served.
After moving to Quitman County Elementary, she was entrusted with facilitating schoolwide professional development on math best practices and differentiated instruction. Her efforts led to 93% of 3rd and 4th grade scholars in Transition-Accelerated classes scoring Proficient or Advanced on state-mandated assessments. As she moved up from math coach to assistant principal, she gained experience implementing the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Program for Quitman County Elementary. Over the course of her career, she has elevated the profession through her involvement in Teach for America.
Ms. Johnson has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and African American Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University in New York, and a Specialist in Education for Curriculum and Instruction from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

Ms. Alderman, Assistant Principal
Biography
Ms. Alderman, known by many as "Ms A," has served as both a kindergarten teacher and academic interventionist at Johnson Elementary since 2020. Ms A began her career in 2002 as a kindergarten teacher at McNeal Elementary in Canton, Mississippi. For the next 22 years, she served as a classroom teacher for scholars from kindergarten to 12th grade as part of Canton Public Schools, Hudspeth Regional Center, and Batson Children's Hospital. In Canton Public Schools she was awarded the Novice Teacher of the Year Award (2003) and served as team leader in all previous schools.
After moving to Jackson Public Schools, she was awarded Teacher of the Year during the 2020-2021 school year. During her time as a JES kindergarten teacher, her efforts led to more than 65% of kindergarten students scoring the target score of 681 on the Mississippi Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. During the 23-24 school year, she was named the first Communities in School Site Coordinator for Johnson Elementary.
Ms. A has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from The University of Mississippi, and a Specialist in Educational Administration from The University of Mississippi. She is excited to move to her first year as Assistant Principal at Johnson Elementary where she can continue to serve our scholars and develop future teacher leaders!
