Purpose
The purpose of ALPHA is to provide a differentiated curriculum and services that meet the unique cognitive, social, and emotional needs of gifted students, preparing them to succeed in a global society.
Effective instruction of intellectually gifted students takes place in environments that:
· Permit and encourage gifted students to develop their potential through interaction with intellectual peers
· Encourages and nurtures inquiry, flexibility, decision making, thinking skills, self-evaluation, and divergent thinking
· Recognizes students’ unique learning styles, talents, and differences
· Provides appropriate modifications for special populations
Vision
At Jackson Public Schools, we prepare scholars to achieve globally, to contribute locally, and to be fulfilled individually. Our vision is for gifted students to acquire knowledge, skills, behaviors and attitudes to achieve their learning potential. To develop their fullest potential, we will encourage students to embrace diversity, contribute positively to their community, explore possibilities, and aspire to excellence.
Mission
We develop scholars through world-class learning experiences to attain an exceptional knowledge base, critical and relevant skill sets, and the necessary dispositions for great success. The mission of the gifted education program is to provide intellectually gifted students authentic and challenging opportunities in a safe, collaborative and vibrant environment to advance their unique cognitive abilities.
Goals
1. Meet the learning needs of gifted students through use of a curriculum that provides opportunities for research and the development of critical and creative thinking skills.
2. Identify and nurture strengths and potential in our students.
3. Enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers who work with gifted children in order to effectively provide for their needs.
4. Increase parental and community engagement for the advancement of the gifted education program.
