Each public school district within the state is mandated by Mississippi state law to provide gifted education programs for intellectually gifted students. Open Doors is the name of the program in Jackson Public Schools. It serves identified students in grades 2-5 at Casey. The Open Doors program curriculum is different from the regular program of instruction provided by the district. Gifted students are grouped together for a minimum of five hours per week. Activities enhance the integration of advanced content and student interests, utilizing higher level thinking skills, creative problem solving, critical thinking skills, research skills, personal growth and human relations exercises, leadership skills, and creative expression.
