While Coronavirus remains an evolving public health concern, we will maintain this space to keep our public informed of the District's decisions related to maintaining the well-being of scholars, staff, and our community. We will continue to monitor the latest developments and collaborate with the Mississippi Department of Education, the Mississippi State Department of Health, and the City of Jackson.
Guidance and Procedures
There is no longer a quarantine requirement for students or staff who have been exposed to the virus. It is recommended that those exposed wear a high-quality mask for 10 days and get tested on day 5.
Although there is no longer a mask mandate, it is highly encouraged that staff and students wear “well-fitting” masks if the COVID-19 community transmission levels at which they live are high. CDC recommends the use of COVID-19 Community Levels to determine the impact of COVID-19 on communities and to take action.
Students and staff who test positive do not have to submit a negative test if they have met return to school criteria.
Students and staff who were COVID-19 positive may return to school after:
- Staying home for at least 5 days and isolating yourself from others in your home. You are likely to be most infectious during these first 5 days. Wear a high-quality mask when you must be around others at home and in public.
- If after 5 days you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and your symptoms are improving, or you never had symptoms, you may end isolation after day 5.
- Regardless of when you end isolation, avoid being around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 until at least day 11.
- You should wear a high-quality mask through day 10.
Students and staff members who are exposed to the virus should wear a high-quality mask for 10 days, regardless of the vaccination status and previous infection.
